Soul Hair – the environmentally aware Salon

Soul Hair salons are an environmentally aware organisation.

Environmental issues are increasingly recognized as an important factor in consumer choices. By partnering with Aveda and supporting and implementing environmentally aware buying and working practices, we do our bit to make the world a better place.

Environmental health and safety

Soul Hair source most of their hair care products from Aveda. Aveda are a hair products manufacturer and distributer that are at the forefront of environmentally aware products and have been so for much longer than many other manufacturers. For example, Aveda is proud to be recertified as a MNSTAR workplace. But what is this? “MNSTAR, the Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA) Program, recognizes worksites where managers and employees work together to develop safety and health management systems that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and result in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses.

To achieve MNSTAR status, Aveda’s management and employees worked with MNOSHA’s Workplace Safety Consultation to identify and eliminate current or future safety hazards. Key elements of this comprehensive program include: management leadership and employee involvement; an allocation of resources to address safety issues; systems that identify and control workplace hazards; and a plan for employee safety training and education.”

Cradle to cradle

In support of our mission “to care for the world we live in” Aveda has embraced the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) concept and philosophy as a key element of acting responsibly. “The Cradle to Cradle framework moves beyond the traditional goal of reducing the negative impacts of commerce (‘eco-efficiency’), to a new paradigm of increasing its positive impacts (‘eco-effectiveness’). MBDC has developed a white paper that compares the approach of eco-efficiency (or minimization) and a more comprehensive, sustaining approach that integrates eco-efficiency within the larger eco-effective goal of optimization. At its core, Cradle to Cradle design perceives the safe and productive processes of nature’s ‘biological metabolism’ as a model for developing a ‘technical metabolism’ flow of industrial materials. Product components can be designed for continuous recovery and reutilization as biological and technical nutrients within these metabolisms.

 Eliminate the concept of waste. “Waste equals food.” Design products and materials with life cycles that are safe for human health and the environment and that can be reused perpetually through biological and technical metabolisms. Create and participate in systems to collect and recover the value of these materials following their use.

 Power with renewable energy. “Use current solar income.” Maximize the use of renewable energy.

 Respect human & natural systems. “Celebrate diversity.” Manage water use to maximize quality, promote healthy ecosystems and respect local impacts. Guide operations and stakeholder relationships using social responsibility.”

Aveda cares

Over the past decade, we’ve partnered with nonprofit organizations whose work supports our commitment to social and environmental improvement.

Renewable energy

Aveda supports the development of renewable wind energy to help offset our carbon footprint over time. We are proud to be the first beauty company manufacturing products with 100% certified wind power**.

Packaging with plastics derived from plants

Aveda were the first prestige beauty company to combine PCR and bioplastics in a plastic tube.

Earth and community care report

In 1989, they were the first privately held company to sign the CERES Principles (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies). Today, we continue to strive to improve our practices and commit to publicly sharing our results.

Our ingredient promise

At Aveda, The Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences, we believe that Nature is the best beauty artist of all. This is why we continually strive to increase our use of naturally derived ingredients whenever possible.

Naturally Derived

We define naturally derived ingredients to be those for which more than 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, water, or some other natural source. Our commitment to deliver high performance, botanically-based products that are kinder to the planet – which is good for all of us — goes much deeper than our use of naturally derived
ingredients.

Sandalwood from Western Australia

Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) oil is a key ingredient found in many of Aveda’s own aroma blends, providing a rich, woody depth with polished smooth notes that create an air of complexity and mystery in many of our beloved skin, body and hair care products.

Cistus from Spain

Spanish cistus extract is essential to aveda—like the people who harvest this certified organic plant. Our relationships with local andalucian village inhabitants have helped create an earth-friendly cistus practice.

Argan from morocco

Moroccan women are saving the argan tree from the encroaching desert. They help them determine their future, and protect the trees upon which they depend.

Get a boost from the acacia

Sacred in ancient Mesopotamia, the acacia tree is a centuries-old source of nourishment and beauty. Our scientists discovered that the gum of the acacia tree is also a natural thickener, perfect for fine hair. Aveda purchases acacia gum to help thicken and volumize fine hair.

Buriti from Brazil

We use oil from the Buriti tree also known as oil from the tree of life.

Ayurvedic roots of turmeric and amla

We get turmeric—known for its effectiveness in ayurveda—from the Indian firm nisarga (which means “nature” in Sanskrit). Our partnership with nisarga is helping them to convert more farmland to organic—which is better for the earth, the farmers—all of us.

Ingredient sourcing

Please journey with us to trace Aveda’s ingredients back to the farm or harvesting co-operative. We call it Soil to Bottle, and we do it to ensure fair compensation throughout the process.

Aveda develops close working partnerships with certain communities and/or suppliers and seeks to use them as our primary source for specific ingredients. We frequently reference these relationships in our promotional materials. However, sometimes due to conditions beyond our control (e.g., drought, pests, and capacity limitations) these communities and/or suppliers are unable to meet our needs for an ingredient, including being unable to supply some or all of it. When such situations occur, Aveda uses additional suppliers to provide high-quality alternative sources until we are able to resume sourcing from the primary supplier.

Do you want / need your hair colouring?

If so, Soul Hair Salon in Chester is likely one of your best options. If you are looking for a terrific colourist to colour your hair, or stylist to give you a stunning new look, we believe Soul Hair in Chester should be your number 1 choice

Why use a professional hair colourist?

You may not be surprised to hear that many people don’t in Chester or anywhere else! Off the shelf hair colour products are plentiful, and many of us have tried them, or know someone who has. Our hair colourist(s) spend allot of time correcting badly coloured do it yourself attempts.

Trying to make yourself a home colourist is not only dangerous due to allergic reaction ns (we allergy test all our clients) but being a colourist is both an art and a science, so to achieve the best results is not as easy as the advertising suggests.

The beautiful colour you see on the models hair, advertising these hair colour products have not of course been achieved by the model, but a professional hair colourist. This may seem obvious, but the colour we see on the models advertising home colour products is what initially draws us to the product.

In sum, to achieve the safest best results, do not attempt to do it yourself. Hire a professional hair colourist and if you live in or near Chester, Soul Hair salon has some of the best hair colourists in the region.

What makes a hair colourist a great hair colourist?

Not all hair colourists are the same. Like anywhere, Chester has some poor, mediocre, good and excellent hair colourists in its salons.

An excellent hair colourist will be first and foremost, highly trained, having undergone professional hair colourist training. They will be experienced in their craft, and well able to give sound colouring advice to their clients. They will be polite, friendly and professional and motivated in their given area of expertise.

It stands to reason, that a poor hair colourist will perform badly in all the aforementioned points. It is advisable therefore, to visit a good hair colourist to attain the best results, and Chester’s Soul Hair has some great colourist professionals.

Take one of our hair colourists, Sarah Stead for example!

Sarah Stead is a leading hair colourist based at our Chester salon. She has completed a Wella Master in Colour award from Wella’s colour congress course. This prestigious Wella qualification is the equivalent of a university degree and is the highest qualification a hair colourist can achieve, with few hair colourists in Chester having this qualification!

As a Wella Master in colour graduate, Sarah attends the annual Wella colour congress. Here, she gets to learn from some of Britain’s top colourists and stylists, and review the latest products before they are released onto the market. This knowledge is passed down to our other stylists and colourists, ensuring that our Chester salon is at the forefront of the latest trends, products and innovations. This in turn benefits our clients.

So if you are thinking of enhancing or changing your hair colour, so don’t try it at home! Book an appointment with a hair colourist, and if you want the best hair colourist in Chester, you know where to come!

Don’t try this at home, visit a hairdressing salon!

Many of our customers have taken a ‘do it yourself’ approach to colouring and tinting or highlighting their own hair. Here at the Soul Hair salon, we’ve had allot of business, correcting at best mediocre, and at worst disastrous attempts at home hairdressing

Our advice is to visit a reputable hairdressing salon, rather than be taken in by the advertising on the home hairdressing products available. These home hairdressing products will show great looking models, showing off a terrific colour or perm for example. The problem is that these models have had their hair coloured by a top colourist from a top hairdressing salon. They have not, of course, done it themselves. This may seem obvious, but if we’re honest, we all at least know someone who has tried a hair colour themselves with awful results don’t we? This can even be a dangerous practise, without proper allergy testing and so on.

Many aspects of hairdressing are both an art and a science, and we should be aware, that the safest way to get the best results is to book an appointment with a good hairdressing salon, and not attempt these things ourselves.

What makes a hairdressing salon, a great hairdressing salon?

First and foremost, a great hairdressing salon with be staffed by great hairdressers. Soul hair’s hairdressing salon is staffed by highly trained, competent and skilled staff.

Our staff undergoes continual in house training, along with developmental external training courses to ensure they are trained in their area of expertise to the best possible standards. We have one colourist who has gained the Wella Master in Colour award. Equivalent to a university degree, this is the highest hairdressing hair colour award attainable. One of our hairdressing stylists styles hair for top fashion designers for the prestigious London Fashion week, as well as working at our salon. These are just a few examples of the high level of professionalism we both expect and encourage at our salon. There is few hairdressing salons that go to such lengths to ensure their staff are developed, as Soul Hair does.

Soul Hair is a hairdressing salon that you know is special as soon as you walk through their doors. Beautifully decorated in a modern, contemporary style, it’s a great salon to be in. As you sit down and relax in these wonderful surroundings, you are offered great quality teas and coffees.

Attentive, friendly and helpful salon staff is ready to advice, as well as the hairdressing services themselves. Complimentary treatments and extras such as a head and/or hand massages come as part and parcel and finishing touches added for free. All these things help to make your salon experience, all that more special which is what great hairdressing is all about.

Soul Hair salon is a hairdressing salon that refuses to rest on its laurels, despite already having a terrific and growing reputation. Our hairdressing salons are continually striving to improve what they do, and the outstanding feedback (as shown on this web-site) they continually receive is testimony to that.

If you want to visit the best hairdressing salon in Chester or Tarpoley, book an appointment with Soul Hair today.

Hair Salons

Most of us visit hair salons a few times a year at least. A strange fact, in terms of our visits to hair salons is that unlike with many of our purchasing habits, we do not chose to go to our nearest hair salon. To explain, we seem more than willing to inconvenience ourselves, by choosing to visit the hair salons we like and trust, even if it means travelling that little bit further to get to them.

This tells us several things. Firstly, those hair salons are important to us, and secondly, we are willing to go out of our way to attend the salons we like.

Why is this? Well one reason is that many of us at least once in our life have visited a bad salon.

What makes a hair salons get a bad reputation?

Hair salons can get a bad reputation by being old fashioned, or scruffy unkempt environments. We all expect to get our hair done nicely in a nice place.

Other criticisms of bad hair salons are their having poorly trained or mediocre staff. Hair salons need highly trained professional staff, able to have the skills and confidence to implement great colours and styles, and advise appropriately. A hair salon may be too expensive, or not indulge us with those little extras that make your salon experience, and enjoyable one.

Hair salons are not in your bedroom or bathroom!

We’ve all seen the beautiful models on the packaging of home perm or colour products. As a result, if we’re honest, most of us have at one time or other attempted to emulate these models, or save a few pounds by attempting to colour, for example, our own hair at home. As a result, we have experienced at best mediocre results and at worst disasters. Our own homes are not hair salons, and few of us have the experience and skill to apply these colours well, or give ourselves great looking highlights or perms and so on.

The packaging models haven’t done these themselves either (of course). Naturally, top stylists and colourists have attended to them prior to the photographic advertising shoot. This may seem obvious, but a picture paints a thousand words and advertisers’ know this! Hair salons are not our own bedroom or bathroom and few of us have the skills and know how to give ourselves hair treatments. After all, we wouldn’t attempt to cut our own hair, so similarly, we shouldn’t attempt to colour, style or attempt anything else ourselves. Trial and error is all well and good but we cannot afford errors with our own looks, so do your hair a favour and leave it to the hair salons.

Soul Hair has two terrific hair salons

Soul hair has salons in Chester and Tarporley. They are the epitome of what makes hair salons, great hair salons.

Wonderfully decorated and furnished, in a contemporary, stylish manner, you know you are somewhere special as soon as you walk through the door. In these comfortable, beautiful surroundings you are warmly greeted by friendly staff, who offers you a cup of quality tea or coffee as you wait.

Our hair salons are staffed by highly qualified stylists’ and colourists, who undertake ongoing in-house and external courses continually. We want the very best for our clients, and that means having high quality, dedicated staff that can implement great styles and colours, give great advice and treat you in that special way we expect from quality hair salons.

This information gets fed back to the other hairdressers and stylists, and consequently positively benefits the clients that come in to the salon.

Soul Hair employs great hairdressers’

For example, one of our artistic stylists, Tom Wright does other work outside of Soul Hair complements his work here, and benefits our customers. This hairdresser and stylist, does what few if any other Chester based hairdresser does. He works as a session hairdresser at well known fashion shows such as the London Fashion Week and many more. Only the very best stylists get to do this kind of work, and Tom is amazing at what he does. In tough conditions, he manages to create unique styles to suit the remit of a wide range of fashion designers who as you can imagine, are not easy to please. Best Hair Colour Technician in Chester

Where to find the best Hair Colour technician in Chester?

The answer is simple, Soul Hair of course. Chester based Soul Hair is an outstanding salon. Soul hair is a beautiful looking salon, decorated to a high standard in a contemporary style. Comfortably furnished, no expense has been spared to ensure our clients are comfortable and can relax with a quality cup of tea or coffee as they wait to be seen.

Soul hair staff is highly trained

Soul Hair salon works hard to ensure that their staff are well trained, and to a high standard. In house training with senior staff and managers teaching the junior members of the team is ongoing, with staff members also regularly attending external courses to enhance their skills.

So what makes Soul Hair think that they have the best hair colour technician in Chester?

One answer may be in one of our team, namely Sarah Stead. Sarah has gained the Wella Master Colour Award, which is the highest qualification a colour technician can achieve. Equivalent to a university degree, the course covers all aspects, technical, scientific and practical to do with top quality hair colouring. Few salons in the Chester area have hair colour technicians trained to such a high standard.

As a Master colour award holder, Sarah is able to attend the prestigious annual Colour Congress even t held at the Wella Studios taking place each year in February. Here, she gets to see demonstrations’ from some of Britain’s top colour artists. These are skills that she gets to transfer both to Soul Hair staff and subsequently, Soul Hair clients. She also gets to see future trends before their release onto the general market, putting Soul Hair and its clients at the forefront of hair colour fashions and style.

We have wonderful, skilled colour technicians, but Sarah is a colour expert and we believe, one of the best in the Chester area.

Don’t try to colour your hair at home!

Much of our colourist work in our Chester salon revolves around re-doing badly coloured hair. Many clients are taken in by the beautiful models hair colour seen on packaging. They think they can go home and replicate that look for themselves.

Let’s be honest, we either have tried this ourselves at some point, or at least know someone who has. The results can range from disappointing to disastrous, with allergic reactions also not uncommon.

The fact is that the hair colour models you see on the do-it-yourself hair colour packaging have not done it themselves. They have, of course had a colour technician produce the beautiful colour they display. So don’t be fooled by the advertising, if you want a great looking hair colour (or tints, highlights, lowlights etc). The advice is to go and see a hair colour technician.

Soul Hair has salons in Chester and nearby Tarporley. We cater for women and men, and offer a wide range of services including cut and finishes, perms, hair colouring, highlights, wedding hair and more. So if you live in or near Chester, you know where to come!

Need your hair colouring?

Sarah Stead – Hair Colourist

Sarah Stead is based in our Chester Salon. Sarah is a graduate of Wella, having gained a Master colour award from them. The Wella Master Colour award is equivalent to a university degree, and there is no higher colourist qualification that it is possible to attain in the UK.

Having this Master Colour Award allows Sarah to attend the colour congress held annually at the Wella Studios. Only colourists who have gained their Master Colour Award from Wella are permitted to attend this prestigious event.

This annual Wella event is fantastically beneficial not only for the colourist attending, but also for their salon, which is in our case, Chester based Soul Hair. The event invites top artists from across the country to demonstrate their latest colourist creations, allowing these skills to be transferred to the attendees, who in turn bring these colour trends to their salon. New products and techniques are also highlighted before they become available on the market. All this ensures that the colourist, and manifestly their salon remain at the leading edge of hair colourist trends. This knowledge and skills are enjoyed by the salon clients, who benefit from great new looks in this ever changing and popular area of hair beauty.

Soul Hair focuses heavily on the professional development of their stylists and colourists, with ongoing in house training as well as external courses. A disinterested member of staff doesn’t last long in our environment, where good hairdressing is not just a job, it’s a passion.

Sarah, for example began training to be a hairdresser in her teens, and quickly found that the colourist aspect of the profession was where she was most adept. Here at Soul Hair, we were able to capitalise on this interest which lead to Sarah gaining this prestigious qualification. Sarah didn’t just want to be a good hair colourist, she aims to be the best and Soul Hair enters and does well in numerous colourist and stylist competitions.

Few salons in the Chester area have staff members who have achieved this award, and we like to think our Chester salon has some of the most motivated, professional and qualified staff to match any rival salon.

The Salon

Soul Hair salon in Chester is a beautifully decorated (contemporary) salon and comfortably furnished. So you can relax with a quality cup of tea or coffee whilst you wait for our stylist or colourist services.

We offer a wide range of services with a pricing structure that helps make our treatments and services available to the vast majority of people.
